Compensating for wear.-In mechanism automatically adjustable for wear interposed between a pedal c or hand-lever and the brake rod d, the toothed sector a operating the rod d is pivoted about the axis of the pedal and a spring-pressed pawl c connects the two. The sector is further engaged by a second spring-controlled pawl g pivoted to a lever f which also turns about the axis of the pedal and is formed with two arms k, h adapted to engage fixed stops m, j and limit the movement of the lever. When wear of the brakes results in depression of the pedal beyond a certain limit, the arm engages the stop m and the pawl g slips into the next notch. The pedal on its return moves back relativelv to the sector and the pawl e engages the next notch. The sector and pawls may be in duplicate with the pedal between them.
