Steering-mechanism; control mechanism.-In motor-cycle steering, vehicle-spring, and like dampers of the type comprising a friction drum and internal friction shoes adapted to be expanded by means of a cam and lever, the lever is controlled from a distance through the medium of Bowden cable mechanism. The lever 8, Fig. 2, secured to the cam spindle 6 is mounted in a casing 7 fixed to or formed integral with a detachable disc 2 closing the top of the friction drum, and is actuated by means of a Bowden cable 9 against the action of a spring 21, an adjustable set screw 19 limiting the release movement. The inner member of the Bowden cable 9 is attached to a disc 10, Fig. 5, carrying a lever arm 12, which is locked in adjusted position by a spring-actuated pawl 15 engaging ratchet teeth 17 on the cover plate of the casing enclosing the disc, the pawl being released by an auxiliary lever 13 pivoted to the end of the arm 12.
