Abstract

815,072. Leaf turners. COOKSEY, C. H. Feb. 15, 1957 [March 23, 1956], No. 9048/56. Class 52(3) A leaf- or pageturning mechanism comprises a support 6 on which are mounted first and second arms 8 and 19, the support being pivotally mounted so as to carry the arms towards and away from the page the first arm 8 having page-gripping means, a friction disc 9, which when the mechanism is actuated to grip a page causes the page to be bowed outwardly by movement of the first arm, the second arm 19 then entering the bow beneath the leaf and complete the page turning, the disc 9 being released to allow the page turning and the arms being restored to their original position when the mechanism is released. The arms 8, 19 are carried by plates 7, 17 pivoted to the support and joined by an adjustable link 22 having a lost motion connection with the plate 7. A lever 13 is acted upon by a Bowden wire 12 leading to a pedal or other actuating device and is connected by wire 15 to plate 7. A spring secured at one end to the support 6 slides on the wire 15 as shown. On moving the pedal the lever 13 is moved to the right as shown increasing the distance between the wire 15 and support 6 and causing the spring to tilt the support, and the arms 8, 19 towards the page. The remainder of the movement then follows.
