906,216. Measuring-tapes. QUENOT, M. Jan. 17, 1961 [Jan. 19, 1960], No. 1840/61. Class 106 (2). A measuring-tape is provided with a retractable hinge for a collapsible crank handle. As shown (Fig. 3) in the inoperative position handle 20 on crank arm 19 lies in an aperture 2 in plate 1 and hinge member 13, which is pivotally connected to lugs on arm 19, lies in an aperture 4. As arm 19 is lifted its edges 29 (Fig. 1) engage plate 1, pivot thereon and act as a lever to raise member 13 until a nose 30 on arm 19 abuts plate 1 (Fig. 4), this being the operative position. Member 13 is urged by springs 15 situated between plate 1 and studs 14 on member 13 and has two positions of stable equilibrium, the operative and inoperative positions of arm 19.
