Abstract

723,953. Control lever mechanism. PHILLIPS & CO., Ltd., J. A. Nov. 6, 1953 [Nov. 7, 1952], No. 28071/52. Class 136(1). Lever control means for cable-operated mechanism comprises a hand lever 15 pivoted about a fixed point 13a and connected by a pivotal link 23 with the cable 34, the link has a peg 29 which is moved over a fixed rack 20 and can be selectively engaged in any one of the steps 26, 27 and 28 thereof as the lever is rotated about its fixed pivot in one direction or the other. The rack 20 is supported on the base 10 of a casing having a cover 38 and provided with an adjustable clip 11 for mounting it on the handlebars or other frame tube of the bicycle. A wall 17 of the casing is bent inwards at 32 to provide an abutment for the sheath 33 of the cable 34. A pivot pin 22 is provided on a cranked portion of the lever 15 for the link 23 which is of duplex form and arranged astride the rack 20. The end of the link 23 remote from the pivot 22 has a rivet 24 with a collar 25 to which the cable 34 is anchored. A spring 31 is anchored at one end to a stud 13 in the base 10 and at the other end in a grooved sleeve 30 of the peg 29 to urge the peg into one of the notches 26, 27 or 28.
