Class 38 (v) [Also in Group XXIX] In an adjustable control mechanism the loading of a tension spring on a lever connected to a control device, e.g., a valve or switch, is adjusted by altering the direction of action of the spring. As shown, the valve 18 is actuated through a lever 22 pivoted to a casing 11 at 23 by a thermal element 34 which is loaded by a spring 40 pulling on a pin 32 on the lever arm 28. The other end of the spring is adjustably carried by a screw 43 in a U- shaped member 42 pivoted on the casing substantially in line with the pin 32 and swingable about its pivot by a Bowden cable 49 between limiting positions in which the spring acts through the lever pivot as shown in thick lines to a position shown in dotted lines where the spring exerts its greatest moment on the lever.
