Abstract
706,896. Window-operating mechanism. HUPP CORPORATION. Aug. 26, 1952 [Oct. 20, 1951], No. 21410/52. Class 20 (3). [Also in Group XXXVII] In an electrically driven window operating mechanism of the lever arm type, the danger of trapping a person's hand in the window is prevented by a safety device comprising a resistance which is inserted in the motor circuit by a switch actuated by the lever arm as the window approaches the fully raised position. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a window regulator as described in Specification 692,134, the regulator comprising a unitary mounting plate 11 to which an actuating arm 13 is secured by a pivot 14, one end of the arm carrying a pin 15 which engages the window support channel 16 whilst the other end is secured to a gear sector 19 driven through gearing 21 by a reversible motor 22. When the window is being raised and is approaching its fully closed position, a cam 42 on the gear sector 19 contacts a roller 41 carried by the actuating arm 38 of a switch 35, the arm being raised to operate the switch to insert a resistance in the motor circuit. The arrangement is such that the window is driven at full speed in either direction except for the last part of its upward travel, when the motor speed and torque is considerably reduced.
