Abstract
1288012 Accelerator linkage FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 29 April 1971 [2 June 1970] 12029/71 Heading F1B Engine accelerator linkage assembly comprises a pedal 14 which actuates a bell crank 20, the upper end of which is pivotally connected at 30 to one end of a flexible cable 32, the other end of the cable being connected to a throttle lever 38. The cable slides in a sheath 41, the opposite ends of which abut brackets 44 and 52. The end of the cable which is attached to the throttle lever terminates in a metal adapter which fits over a ball stud 56 projecting from the lever. The adapter is secured in the end of a sleeve 58 which telescopes over a tube 62, one end of which abuts the bracket 44. Surrounding the tube 62, is a compression spring which is received in a socket 60 formed at the end of the sleeve and which also abuts the bracket 44. In operation, tension in the cable compresses the spring, and should the spring break, there is still sufficient force to move the throttle to the closed position.
