Abstract
963,979. Bowden mechanisms. L. R. BUSBY. May 30, 1961 [March 2, 1960; April 13, 1961], Nos. 7307/60 and 13251/61. Heading F2K. The outer casing and inner control cable of a Bowden mechanism respectively comprise flexible tubes 13, 11 of plastic material, e.g. nylon, having a low coefficient of friction. As shown, the casing 13 is secured to a fixed member 16 by a metal sleeve 15 which is screwed on to the casing 13 and fastened to the fixed member 16 by nuts 17. The inner tube 111 is connected to an operating lever or the like by an adaptor 182 which is screwed into the interior of the tube. A metal sleeve may be inserted within the end of the outer casing 13 to prevent contraction of the latter when the metal sleeve 15 is screwed thereon. In Fig. 3 (not shown), two coaxial nylon control cables slide within the outer casing. The two control cables are fixed to two operating levers one by an adaptor 182 and the other by a metal connecting sleeve 154. According to the second Provisional Specification the inner control cable may be wire.
