Abstract
1,076,538. Optical fibres. M. C. SCHNEIDER and H. J. SCHNEIDER [trading as JOS, SCHNEIDER & CO. OPTISCHE WERKE]. Aug.3, 1965 [Aug.10, 1964], No. 33066/65. Heading G2J. A cable of optical fibres 1 is compressed near an end portion thereof within a resilient sleeve 2 which is embraced by a rigid annular element 4, the element 4 extending beyond the sleeve 2 into contact with the extremity of the cable to which it is adhesively secured. The rigid element 4 has a substantially cylindrical portion surrounding the sleeve 2 and a constricted portion 5 engaging the extremity of the cable. The cable 1 is enveloped in a flexible sheath 7 one end of which is clamped around the element 4. The other end of the cable may be divided at a separation point into a plurality of branches, two-part fittings comprising an inner resilient sleeve and a rigid outer element embracing the cable before and after the separation point. A shell surrounds the separation point and is adhesively secured to the rigid outer elements of the adjacent fittings.
