Abstract

953,446. Endoscopes. W. WATSON & SONS Ltd. May 24, 1961 [May 24, 1960], No. 18279/60. Heading A5R. [Also in Division H1] An electric lamp for an endoscope comprises a transparent glass envelope enclosing a filament and mounted on a metal connector member having a cylindrical part adjacent the envelope and of a diameter greater than the envelope, and a casing of transparent or translucent synthetic resin completely covering the envelope and having an outer diameter substantially equal to that of the metal connector so as to present a smooth exterior. The lamp may have a second filament for photographic examination. In the form shown, the envelope 1, Fig. 2, encloses a filament 11 for visual examination at one end and a second filament 10 for photographic use at the opposite end. A lead from the filament 10 passes to a central contact 16 and a lead from the filament 11 to a metal ring 14 insulated from the contact 16. The second lead from each filament is connected to a metal ring 13 insulated from the ring 14. The envelope 1 is enclosed in a casing 8 of synthetic resin having a diameter equal to the outer diameter of the ring 13, the leads from the filament 11 being embedded in the casing 8. The endoscope consists of an outer metal tube 20, Fig. 3, having an inclined end into which the base of the lamp 23 is screened. The tube 20 has a lateral aperture 26 and an axial aperture 28. An inner tube 24 having a lens system and a prism 25 opposite the aperture 26 is mounted inside the tube 20, the leads from the base contacts of the lamp passing down between the tubes 20, 24 to a connector 21. The tube 24 carries an eye piece 27 which may be replaced by means for connecting the tube to a photographic camera.
