Abstract
577,774. Electric couplings cables. BELLING & LEE, Ltd., and HEATH, C.W. Nov. 30, 1944, No. 23968. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] A cap-type connector particularly for use with thermionic valves used under tropical conditions comprises a wire 1 surrounded by a tube 2 of polythene or other insulating material enclosed in metal armouring 4 carrying a metal tube 5a soldered to a cap 5. Within the cap is an insulating disc 6 secured by tongues 8 pressed out from the metal of the cap and provided with a flange 9 abutting against the rear wall of the cap. The flange 9 and an annular shoulder 11 on the front face of the disc 6 increase the leakage path from the centrally supported terminal 7 which is connected by a conductor 13 to the wire 1. The cap 5 is domed at the part 10 to separate the terminal 7 from the cap. An earthing clip 14 is secured to the armouring 4. In order to limit the contact between the wire 1 and tube 2 the wire is surrounded by a helically wound thread 3 of polythene. The lower end of the tube 2 fits into an insulating member 16 which is held in position by a metal stop 17 soldered to the wire 1. The cap 5 may be provided with ventilating holes to prevent the condensation of moisture inside.
