Abstract

853,459. Two-part couplings. PRESSAC Ltd. May 1, 1959 [May 1, 1958], No. 13910/58. Class 38(1) A coaxial plug comprising an outer metal shield adapted to screw on to a ferrule of insulating material has a tapered metal sleeve which is forced by the screwing action between the insulation of the central conductor of a cable and an outer metal braid thereon so that the braid is trapped between the sleeve and the ferrule. As shown a sleeve 1 has a flange 2 to hold an insulating disc 3 which supports a plug pin 4. The upper end of the sleeve 1 is slit to form tongues which grip the insulation 9 of the inner conductor 7 of a cable. A ferrule 5 of plastic material is externally screw threaded to engage a shield 6 and screwing motion presses a shoulder 6b of the shield 6 against the flange 2 thereby forcing the sleeve 1 within the braid 8 which is thus flared and gripped between the sleeve 1 and the ferrule 5 and electrically connected, through flange 2, with shield 6.
