Abstract
593,213. Gastroscopes &c. WATTS & SON, Ltd., E. R., and LOECK, G. June 22, 1945, No. 15999. [Class 81 (ii)] In a gastroscope &c. of the kind comprising a flexible tube containing a succession of lens components, each mounted in its individual cell, one end of the tube is mounted in a socket incorporated in a rigid tubular end piece of larger diameter than the flexible tube and carrying one or more lenses of larger diameter than that of the lenses in the flexible tube, an enlarged image being transmitted to the eye piece also incorporated in the rigid end piece. As shown, the tube comprises a coil spring 11, the lenses 8, 8a being mounted in two-part members 9, 9a separated by spacers 10. The spring is fitted with a socket 12 carrying an extension piece 13, in which are positioned window 7, prism 7a and lamp 2, and which is, formed for the attachment of a sponge 14. The 'other end of the spring fits into ring 15 on which is screwed a coupling sleeve 16 carrying a tube 3 containing the larger diameter lens or lenses 4, and eye piece 5. The end of this sleeve and a tubular plug 17 secure the end portion of an outer rubber cover 18. The spring is provided with a rubber cover 19, e.g., by dipping, and the space between the two covers serves for the passage of air blown in by an air bulb attached to nipple 21. The air escapes at the other end through an aperture in the outer cover. A lead 20 for the lamp is wound spirally around cover 19, terminating in connector 22 mounted on ring 23 for rotation about the main axis of the instrument. Specification 454,713, [Group XX], is referred to.
