Abstract

804,545. Electric hand lamps. GUTHMANN, X. F. Sept. 26, 1955 [Sept. 24, 1954], No. 27366/55. Class 75(4) An explosion and shock-proof hand lamp comprises a protective tube 1 of transparent flexible synthetic material, a plug 5, 6 of resilient material fitted at each end of the tube, a closure cap 3, 4 of resilient material provided with shock cushioning means 2 located in a gas tight manner over each end of the tube, at least one fluorescent lamp 7 having its ends supported in the plugs 5, 6, and electrical conductor leads 9 extending through at least one of the plugs into the tube, the axial length of the tube surface in contact with each cap 3, 4 and/or plug 5, 6 being at least equal to the radius of the tube. The cushioning means 2 comprises rings of resilient material of hook-shaped crosssection. A starter switch 8 is located in the space between the cap 3 and the adjacent plug 5 and is actuated by depressing the thin wall centre 31 of the cap into contact with the switch press button 81. The cap 4 has a nipple 4a for receiving the electric supply cable 20. A light reflector 10 is located inside the tube. In a modification, each protective cap consists of two parts screwed together, one part having a nipple in which the electric supply cable is secured by a ring compressed by a screw. The cushioning means comprises rings of circular section sprung into grooves in the caps. Each conductor of the supply cable is connected to the end of a spring adapted to force a silver contact against the end of a contact pin of the fluorescent lamp. The spring is disposed in a sleeve fitted over the end of the contact pin. A choke coil and a condenser connected into the supply cable are disposed in a protective housing formed by two cap-shaped members. A handle may be connected by an adjustable ball joint to a ring clamped to one of the closure caps, Fig. 1 (not shown).
