Abstract

943,534. Incandescent lamps. HUNTING ENGINEERING Ltd., and S. J. NOYCE. June 29, 1960 [June 29, 1959], No. 22294/59. Heading H1F. An electric lamp bulb comprises a glass envelope within which a filament is sealed and a moulded casing of plastics material substantially completely surrounding the envelope, the casing comprising a cylindrical or frustoconical holder portion having at least one electric lead projecting from it, and a head portion coaxial with the holder portion, there being a step or flange between the two portions whereby the holder may be inserted in an aperture and the step engaged with the mouth of the aperture. The plastics material may be transparent or translucent and may consist of one of the polystyrene, acrylic, polyethylene or nylon resinous compounds, cellulose acetate or methyl methacrylate. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the glass envelope 11 is enclosed in a plastic covering 16, the holder portion 17 of which is cylindrical and separated by a step 19 from an enlarged head portion 18. The leads 12, 13 from the filament are taken to metal tags 15 projecting from the covering. Projecting ears may be provided on opposite sides of the portion 17 to pass through small extensions in the panel aperture so that the body is secured in place by turning, a rubber 0-ring being interposed between the step 19 and the panel. The tags may be shaped to embrace the sides of the envelope. In a modification, one terminal consists of a cylindrical sleeve 42, Fig. 6, and the other of a central pin 43, the space between the sleeve and the envelope and pin being filled with plastic which also covers the end of the envelope and forms a head 45. The casing may be formed by injection moulding.
