The light transmitting cap 1 of a signal lamp has frusto-conical surfaces 2, 3 on the outer side, the surfaces of which are so inclined that lateral light from a bulb within the cap is totally reflected. The cap 1 has a hemispherical end 7 and a cylindrical body 6, a plane surface 8 at right angles to the axis extending from this to the outer edge of the surface 3. A similar surface 5 connects the body to the outer edge of the surface 2 which may be made up of two surfaces 2a, 2b of different slope.
