Abstract

1483131 Regulating IC engines S B DIPPLE 13 Oct 1975 [11 Jan 1975] 1252/75 Heading F1B A control mechanism includes a cable 1 adapted to connect an accelerator pedal or hand lever to a throttle of an I.C. engine and means to adjust the effective length of the cable. The means comprises a piston rod 3 which is actuated by a piston 4 in response to changes in inlet manifold vacuum or manually, hydraulically or electrically. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, increase in the inlet manifold vacuum, e.g. by movement of the accelerator to close the throttle valve, moves the piston rod 3 to the left so allowing the throttle valve to close further and decrease in the vacuum causes the throttle valve to open. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) a sheath 6 of the cable is attached to and arm 7 on the piston rod 3.
