1,025,804. Leaf turners. B. BLEZ. June 6, 1963, No. 22479/63. Heading G5X. A leaf turner is selectively operable to turn in the reverse direction a leaf already turned in the forward direction. The arrangement for forward turning is of the kind described in Specification 796,558 in which an arm 3 carrying a rotatably mounted permanent magnet 6 is swung by means of a treadle-operated Bowden cable 26, 27 from a position of rest (Fig. 1) also Fig. 2, not shown, to a position in which the magnet attracts magnetizable material 11 on the leaf to be turned, the arm then returning under the action of a spring 33 (Fig. 7 not shown) to its rest position and rolling out of engagement with the leaf as described in the above mentioned Specification. For reverse turning operation the arm is formed from two sliding elements 3a, 3b (Fig. 3, not shown) and a further spring 34 (Fig. 7) made stronger than spring 33 is included in the Bowden cable system, the arrangement being such that by pressing down the treadle completely (a partial depression being only required for normal leaf turning) spring 34 is compressed such compression resulting in movement of elements 35, 37a (also Fig. 8, not shown) which operate via arm 39 and link 41 to pull element 3a into element 3b thus shortening the leaf turning arm 3 to cause the magnet to engage the magnetizable material 11 on the leaf already turned (i.e. that on the left-hand side) so that on release of the treadle the arm carries the leaf back to the right-hand position.
