[Class 80 (iii)] [See also Group XXXIV] A locking device for a brakeoperating lever comprises a plurality of pawls which extend different amounts to engage in succession with the teeth of a stationary ratchet, the pawls being spring-pressed to engage the teeth and being disengaged by a spring-pressed latch. Two pawls 12, 13 pivoted on the hand lever 9 at 14 extend different amounts to engage a ratchet 11 under the influence of spring plungers 15. The pawls are disengaged by a push latch 19 spring-pressed at 20 and guided in a stop-pin 22. The latch 19 and plungers 15 are arranged in cut-away parts of the lever 9.
