318,653. Hinchliffe, H. O. May 9, 1928. Hand actuation. - In a locking device for a hand brake lever for motor-cars, the lever is in two parts A, B, pivoted together at C, the lower part being secured to an operating shaft M and a detent E urged by a spring K into engagement with a fixed rack H being pivoted to the lower part. When the lever is moved to the right to apply the brake the two parts A, B move together bv reason of the engagement of abutments D, D<1> thereon. Upon initial movement of the lever A to the left a toe J thereon engages the detent and disengages it from the rack, thus releasing the brakes.
