Abstract
528,863. Train-actuated electric contact devices. GOMBOS, L., and ASZALOS, L. May 15, 1939, No. 14518. [Class 105] An electric contact device operated by rail deflection has the mechanical connection to the rail of such a form as to be unaffected by longitudinal movement of the rails or by change of gauge, no spring being used to maintain the mechanical connection. The contact device may be mounted on a base within the ballast or may be attached to the rail. In the latter case the above mechanical connection obviates the need for strict accuracy in manufacture. As shown, the contact device is attached to the rail, the contact box 5 being supported on two longitudinally spaced arms 2 extending from the rail 1. The operating lever pivoted at 6 has on its short arm a transversely cylindrical end 7a engaging in a channel box 9 fixed to the web of the rail at a point intermediate the two support arms ; thus the lever is operated only by a vertical movement of the rail. The long arm 7 of the lever has an adjustable link-and-pin-slot connection 15, 13 to a tubular member 12b which is thus rocked on a bracket 10. The tubular member 12b carries spring-controlled pivoted contacts 17a which co-operate with a contact 20 on a leaf spring 19 extending from the bracket 10.
