Abstract

594,450. Linear-dimension gauges. SIGMA INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd., CASTLETON, A. E., LOXHAM, J., BOOSEY, F. R., and HART, J. Dec. 21, 1945, No. 34804. [Class 106 (ii)] A linear-dimension gauge employing a signal lamp system of the type described in Specification 555,364 comprises an anvil 3 connected to a member 56, Fig. 4, supported by blade springs 55 from a base member for rectilinear motion, the member 56 acting on the shorter arm 60 of a bell-crank lever with its longer arm 59 arranged to move between adjustable electric contacts 72, 73 in the lamp circuit, the arrangement being such that one of three lamps 8, 9, 10 will indicate whether the dimension gauged is oversize, correct or undersize. The body 1, supported from a bedplate 2 by adjustable slide blocks 14, 17, carries the anvil 3 which co-operates with a fixed anvil 4, the whole being supported in a machine by a bracket 11. The anvil 4 is carried by a bar 33 adjustably secured to a member 25 mounted on blade springs 24 secured to the block 17. The body 1 of the gauge, secured to the member 25, has a fixed base 54 carrying the floating member 56 and the bell-crank lever 59, 60, a jewel 61 of the arm 60 being held in contact with a knife edge 62 on the member 56 by a spring 64. Upward displacement of the bellcrank lever moves the arm 59 towards contact 72. A contact 71 is secured to the arm 59 by a spring 70. A tension spring 66 urges the member 56 towards its lowest position. The base member 54 together with the body 1 and member 56 are adjustable as a whole relatively to a supporting plate 50 by means of a hollow rod 80 passing through a fitting hole in the member 54 and having an eccentric end portion 82 bearing in the plate 50.
