Abstract

171,848. Automatic Telephone Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Hudd, A. E. Sept. 27, 1920. Switches, mechanical, without quick action.- In a detector for indicating positions of railway points, a contact arm 8 movable with the points engages at the end of its movement a leaf spring 12 lying parallel to its path and having its end turned down so as to lie in that path. The arm, as shown, is mounted on a spindle connected to the points by a rod 7. The spring 12 is secured to an L-shaped member 18 with a metal block 19 and a back-plate 20. The member 18 is adjusted in the base block 22 by a stud 21 and is clamped by a stud 23 in the required position. The arm carries on its underside a spring which rubs along a quadrant forming a common terminal for the two detector-circuits and is also connected to the quadrant by a wire insulated by beads. Lubrication for the spindle is provided by a wick 26 dipping in an oil well 25 formed in the enclosing watertight casing which is bolted to the rails and fitted with a gland through which the leads are taken.
