Abstract

541,125. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 22, 1940, No. 10756. Convention date, June 23, 1939. [Class 38 (v)] In a thermal regulator for maintaining an electric iron or other device at a pre-determined temperature a bi-metal strip 31 moving upwards engages a resilient operating member 33 and carries it with it until an adjustable screw 38 is engaged after which the member 33 moves about the point 38 as a fulcrum, its right-hand end is lowered and a contact 53 carried by the end is moved away from fixed contacts 50. In the form shown a dead-centre snap-action is given by means of a spring 70 pressing against the end 69 of the strip 33. Contacts. The contact 53 may have a surface 60 of a precious metal such as silver and a packing 61 of a common metal such as bronze. It has a free floating motion in a supporting bracket 54, projections on the contact engaging curved slots in the arms of the bracket, whereby the contact aligns itself with the two fixed contacts 50.
