Abstract

453,599. Light - current relays. BRANDER, B. J., 10, Dannemoragatan, Stockholm. Feb. 12, 1935, No. 4520. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1934. [Class 38 (v)] Relay contact - spring sets have the movable blade spring members supported at or near to their free ends by a movable member which is adapted to impart motion thereto in two opposite directions, the movable spring blade members being of such flexibility as to be incapable of being appreciably pre-tensioned, the necessary retractive force for returning the contacts after engagement being provided by a spring acting on the movable member. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the pivoted armature b operates contact springs formed of extremely thin metal so that they cannot receive any appreciable initial " set." The contact blades are clamped at one end as usual between insulating plates attached to the relay yoke, the free ends of the relatively fixed springs having lateral projections resting in slots formed in insulating pillars k. The movable springs similarly have lateral projections engaging slots in a movable insulating member f, the lower end of which is adapted to be engaged by the horizontal arm of the armature. The upper end of the member f bears against a tongue of a strong blade spring g which furnishes the retractive force for returning the armature after attraction. The pressure of the spring g is adjustable by a screw l. The insulating members k are provided with spare slots so that the number and position of the contact springs employed may be varied at will. Where springs bearing single contacts are employed they may be crossed over, as for example, springs 5 and 6, which together with spring 7 form a " double-make " combination. If springs having two contacts are employed, their extreme flexibility gives a twisting action during their engagement to give a " wiping " action to the contacts.
