Abstract
809,083. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. April 27, 1956 [April 30, 1955], No. 12981/56. Class 38 (5). A relay comprises a number of horizontal rows of fixed wire spring contacts such as 9<SP>1</SP> co-operating with a similar number of rows of movable wire spring contacts such as 9, the free ends of the fixed springs being clamped between rungs of a pair of juxtaposed insulating cards 8a, 8b and the free ends of the movable springs being clamped between rungs of a similar pair of cards 7a, 7b. When the cards 7a, 7b are lifted by the armature 3 the springs 9 engage the springs 9<SP>1</SP> and the contact pressure is provided solely by the flexure of the springs. The armature 3 has shoulders 34 whereby it is pivotally mounted in an opening 15 in a magnetic yoke 1 and is retained by pins 20a of a clip 20 engaging armature notches 35. A coil 2 surrounding the armature with clearance is mounted between a flange 16 of the yoke 1 and a down-turned extension 11 of the yoke. The recessed lower ends of the cards 8a, 8b are mounted on the extension 11 between a pair of clips 17, 18 having limbs received in recesses 12, 13 of the extension. The armature passes through the clip 18 and the horizontal limb 18a of the clip serves as an armature back stop which may be bent to adjust the armature stroke. The upper ends of the cards 8a, 8b are held in grooves 64 of the centre arm 61 of a three-armed restoring spring 6 mounted at the top of the contact stack 4, the stack being mounted on the yoke 1 by a spring clip 5 engaging openings 14 in the yoke. The recessed lower ends of the cards 7a, 7b rest in armature grooves 32, a clip 19 being interposed between the upper armature surface and the cards and having estensions 19a arranged in the grooves. Thus the contact stroke may be adjusted by bending the interposed clip part 19b or by providing a clip with a part 19b if different thickness. The upper ends of the cards 7a, 7b are located in grooves 65 of the outer arms 62, 63 of the restoring spring 6. A number of similar relays may be mounted side-by-side on a common yoke 1.
