Abstract

751,917. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 6, 1954 [Aug. 12, 1953], No. 22916/54. Class 38(5) The E-shaped iron circuit of a relay comprises two similar E-shapedstampings 1, 11 having their cores 2, 21 welded or riveted together. An insulating contact-carrying plate 30 together with a mounting bracket 13 are fixed to lugs (not shown) on the base of the stampings, the contacts 9, 10 comprising wire springs, the free ends of the fixed springs 9 being supported by a toothed insulating plate 5 fixed in notches 8 in the stampings. The contacts 9 have hammer-like contact tips with V-shaped recesses therein which, with the movable contacts 10, form change-over contact sets operated by an armature 20 pivoted on the edge of the yokes 3, 31. A groove 201 in the armature supports a cross-bar 18 carrying on both sides of the relay an insulating toothed bar 17 which operates the contacts 10 when the coil 4 on the cores 2, 21 is energized, the lower ends of the bars 17 being mounted in apertures 152 in a V- shaped return spring 15 fixed at its end 151 in slots 16 in the plate 30. A transparent insulating cover may enclose the relay. In a modification, Fig. 4a, a further pair of toother insulating bars 25 is provided and returned by a further spring 26. The movable contact springs are the springs 9 and certain are operated by the bars 17 and certain by the bars 25 to produce sequentially-operating changeover 'contact sets.
