Abstract
1,271,389. Attracted armature relays. WESTINGHOUSE AIR BRAKE CO. 4 Aug., 1969 [5 Aug., 1968], No. 38964/69. Heading H1N. A multicontact relay has its armature 53 supported by means of resilient movable contact springs 24 and located to be attracted to bridge polepieces 12, 13 on energization of a coil 8. The relay shown has three contact stacks each with two sets of changeover contact springs, the fixed contacts 22, 23, of which are located in their rest positions by projections 31 of a transparent fixed ladder 30 which has ports 32b located in the polepiece 12 and a further projection (Fig. 3, not shown) engaged in a hole in a locating plate 34 which is secured by screws 39 to the top of the insulators 19 in which the contact springs 22, 23, 24 are mounted. The screws 39 also secure the insulators 19 to the polepiece 12 and outer slots (20) in the insulators 19 have glued therein insulating tubes 42 for coil end wires 43 which are connected to terminals 45 in the contact stacks. The terminal ends 45, 22a, 23a, 24a may receive soldered connectors (not shown) or a plug base 56 which is retained by the bent end 36 of the plate 34. The armature 53 is carried on an insulating stop member 50 having slots 51 through which the ends of the springs 24 pass with bent portions 26 thereof retaining the member 50 against bends 25 of the springs. Non-magnetic self-adhesive insulating tape or non-ferrous metal members 55 prevent sticking of the armature on de-energization. The member 50 has stop projections 52 which limit the armature movement away from the polepieces 12, 13.
