Abstract

825,589. Electromagnetic relays. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Sept. 9, 1957 [Sept. 7, 1956], No. 28449/57. Class 38 (5). A relay set has a fixed magnetic circuit comprising a flux member 29 having surrounding insulation 32 and a core member 37. Each relay comprises two short arms 30 and one long arm 31 of the member 29, an armature 34 on a support 35 and carrying a cylindrical contact 46, two arms of the core member 37 and part of a fixed contact member 39 having cylindrical contacts 47 or spring set lugs 45. The inner arms 30 of the member 29 and the inner arms of the member 37 are common to two relays. The armature 34 normally rests against the insulation 32 of the arm 31 and a short gap is arranged between them and the parts 37, 39 which are mounted together. When a coil surrounding the armature 34 and the arm 31 is energized the armature is repelled by the arm 31 and attracted by the member 37 so that contacts 46, 47 engage and the magnetic circuit is completed through the arms of the member 37 and the arms 30 which are slightly spaced apart but face each other over a large area. A holding coil may also surround part of the armature and arm 31 or one of the arms 30. In the latter case one holding coil can be used for two relays. Soldering lugs 36 and 40 ... 42 complete the circuit connections and indentations 38 in the member 37 reduce the gaps in the magnetic circuits. A set of parts 34, 35, 37, 39 can be mounted on each side of a common flux member 29 and Fig. 2a shows an insulating carrier 1 for two such arrangements with common coils. A panel 2 carries box-like parts 3, 4 which receive arms 30, 31 respectively and have projections and guides 5 . . . 8, 14, 15 to locate and space the parts. One operating coil surrounding one end of the part 4 will operate four armatures 34 and a clip-in part 26 is provided to make the connections to the coils. Rectifiers may be mounted by means of projections on the parts 3. In Fig. 4a the arm 31<SP>1</SP> is of magnetized steel so that the upper diagram shows the normal flux paths and the lower diagram shows the flux paths in the energized condition. Modifications are also described which enable the armatures and contacts to be readily observed (Figs. 4b, 4c, not shown). Specification 825,590, [Group XXXVII], is referred to.
