Abstract
1,217,976. Electromagnetic relays. AMF Inc. 24 July, 1969 [9 Aug., 1968], No. 37266/69. Heading H1N. A flat cuboid electromagnetic relay having a smallest dimension substantially smaller than the other two dimensions thereof is provided with " headers " 23, 25 spaced apart and interconnected by a flat magnetic frame 30 which has a central leg 33 on which the relay coil 34 is disposed with one header 23 in a closed end of a case 20 and the other header 25 forms a closure member at the open end of the case 20. A plurality of contact sets 40 are disposed substantially in a plane parallel to the plane of the frame 30 and spaced therefrom in a direction along the smallest dimension of the relay with the platelike U-shaped armature 50 disposed between the contact sets and frame and mounted for rocking movement about one header. The armature 50 is biased by springs 36 acting through pins 37 against a stop surface 48 of the header 23. Members 55 attached to the legs 51 of the armature 50 are interconnected by an insulating rod 56 which passes between movable contact springs 41, 42 of the changeover contact sets 40. The header 25 includes insulators supporting the movable contact terminals and coil terminals and has slots for connector terminals 45 which extend from respective fixed contacts 43 in the header 23. The armature 50 is mounted on hinge springs 54 clamped in the header 25. The fixed contact terminals may be taken through apertures in the closed end of the case 20 (Fig. 8, not shown) and the terminal ends may be bent for connection to a printed circuit board (not shown). In an alternative arrangement (Figs. 9, 10, not shown) the armature and armature biasing springs engage a contact operating cord having apertures for the ends of movable contact springs which co-operate with respective pairs of fixed contacts mounted in the case closure header.
