Abstract
1,167,702. Electromagnetic contactors. BROOKHIRST IGRANIC Ltd. 8 Jan., 1968 [31 Aug., 1967], No. 1114/68. Heading H1N. An electromagnetic contactor has an insulating base 6 closed by an insulating magnet housing 4 closed by an insulating cover 2 and an electromagnet within the magnet housing 4 which also has two push-bars 16, 18 passing therethrough and secured to the armature 12 and contact carrier 38 in the base 2. The bars 16, 18 are biased by compression springs 48 and have different sized slots 16a, 18a for the different sized armature ends. A spring 20 with ends in recesses 16b, 18b retains the armature. The electromagnet core 22 is retained against a spring 46 by a strap 42 and the encapsulated twin coil element 14 is held by compression springs 26 extending from the cover 2 so that blade terminals (Fig. 12, not shown) on the coil element engage respective spring clip terminals (24) on the base 6. Contact bridges 36 on the carrier co-operate with fixed contacts 30 mounted by screws 32 on the base 6 in engagement with respective wiring terminals 34 which have locating projections 34c which fit in base slots 6c, each terminal having a different interlocking arrangement with the base to ensure correct circuit connection. Openings 2b in the cover receive the ends of the push-bars 16, 18 and the position of the ends 16c, 18c gives a visual indication of armature position. Auxiliary contact units 4 may be mounted at the sides of the contactor with projections 68c, of their contact bridge supporting plungers 68, in the paths of movement of the push-bars 16, 18. Two contactors may be interlocked to ensure that only one operates and the interlock mechanism (Figs. 13, 14, not shown) includes a T-shaped roller ended pivoted lever, adjustable to allow initial movement of the push-bar 16 or 18 before it engages a roller which prevents operation.
