Abstract

1,178,135. Electromagnetic relays. PIRELLI S.p.A. 23 May, 1967 [24 May, 1966], No. 23856/67. Heading H1N. A multi-pole electromagnetic relay has contacts convertible from normally open to normally closed and vice versa by changing the position in a contact carrier compartment 32 of a unit comprising a movable contact bridge 43, a T-shaped element 45 and a compression spring 46. Fig. 7a shows the normally closed contact position and Fig. 8a the normally open position with the bridge 43 engaging ridges 41 which project into the compartment 32. Protuberances 42 at the ends of the compartments engage in notches 49 in the elements 45. A central compartment (37) of the carrier 6 houses a biasing compression spring 38 which acts between the closed end of the compartment and a bar 39 whose ends engage surfaces (53) of seats 52 in identical housing parts la, 1b. The latter are held together on a base 2 by interfitting braces 18 retained by spring arms 20a of a plate 19 with links 20b which pass through holes 20c in the base 2 to engage bosses (27) on the coil former and retain the coil 5 and yoke 3 of the electromagnet on the base 2. The laminated armature is identical with the yoke 4 and is moulded into the carrier 6. The carrier has a boss 35, with a threaded hole 36, extending outside the housing to connect a further contact carrier (not shown) to convert the relay to 8-pole operation if required.
