Abstract

1,114,913. Electromagnetic contactors. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. 19 Sept., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 41634/66. Heading H1N. A polyphase electromagnetic contactor has an offset projection 40 on the contact surface 39 of each end of its resiliently mounted bridging contacts 37 so that after initial engagement of the projection with the fixed contact 35 the bridge tilts to the position shown in Fig. 5C. This is intended to cut through any undesirable film or surface material on the surface 46 of the fixed contact 35. The end of the projec<SP>-</SP> tion 40 may be rounded or it may be formed by material forced into a ridge by chiselling a notch in the contact surface (Fig. 6, not shown). The contact bridges 37 are biased by springs 45 in recesses 43 in a carrier 27 secured to the contactor armature 25 by a pivot pin 29.
