Abstract

1,057,991. Snap-action switches; contact members for switches. CUTLER-HAMMER Inc. March 2, 1965 [March 2, 1964], No. 8852/65. Heading H2B. A movable contact carrier 16 of insulating material carries contacts 15, (15), for bridging fixed contacts 8, 10 or (9), (11) (Fig. 2, not shown), and has adjacent ribbed insulating surfaces 29, (29), for cleaning the contacts 8, (9), 10, (11). An operating lever 6 moves carrier 16 via an over-centre spring 19 engaging a projection 18 on carrier 16, the general switch construction being similar to that of Specifications 655,390 and 947,889. The contact carrier 16 has two recesses (27), (28) (Fig. 4, not shown), into which the V-shaped contacts 15, (15), are pressed to fit flush with the insulating surface of the carrier. Each contact 15 has a base portion 15a of copper, having good arc-interrupting characteristics, and an inlaid portion 15b of coin silver, having low contact resistance.
