Abstract
511,539. Metallic springs for switches. MICRO SWITCH CORPORATION. Feb. 21, 1938, No. 5467. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1937, [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a snap-action mechanism which includes a flat thin leaf spring, bowed under compression, the pivotal end of the spring is made substantially square to the length and seats in an angle of less than 180 degrees in a groove formed in a support for the spring. As applied to a snap action switch, a leaf spring 8 secured to a terminal 11 is placed under tension by two leaf springs 9 attached to the free end of the spring 8 and placed under compression by being seated in a recess 13 of an abutment 12. The springs 8, 9 are stamped from a sheet of beryllium copper 8.5 thousandths of an inch thick and the moving contact 7 is formed by folding a strip of silver over the free end of the leaf springs. The switch is operated by a plunger 14 which depresses the spring 8 below the pivot axis of the springs 9. The ends of the springs 9 have squared ends and pivot in a recess 13 in the abutment 12, Figs. 5, 6 show different abutments, the line of thrust of the spring acting in the direction of the line 21. Lateral movement along the recesses 13 is prevented by stops. Specification 419,917, [Group XXXVII], is referred to.
