Abstract
18,166. Brown, S. G. Dec. 30. Contacts; electro-magnetic switches.-The fixed contacts of a moving-coil relay are made of platinum or gold wire mounted on an adjustable plate, and are placed slantways across the path of the moving contact. A fixed core of magnetic material is placed inside the moving coil to increase the magnetic field due to the current in the coil. In the arrangement shown, the coil A is mounted in a standard C to which is fixed a core d of magnetic material. The coil carries a contact-arm E adapted to engage either of the wire contacts F placed slantways across the path of the end of the contact-arm. The contacts F are mounted on a plate f<1> pivoted concentrically with the coil A and adapted to be adjusted by a screw f<2> and a spring f<3>. The contacts F may be shunted by a condenser in series with a resistance.
