Abstract

The flasher mechanism has a bistable assembly of a sprung metal strip (T1), a coil spring and a sprung arm (B, Ra) which is cantilevered about an axis (A). Oscillation between the two positions is caused by a hot wire (F) which expands and contracts as the electrical current through it flows or is interrupted, as the metal strip (T1) springs to its alternative position and back. The electrical make and break action is relayed to the indicator lamps by the switch (5) and either conducting (C3, C4 or C1, C2 closed) or non conducting (C1, C2 open; C3, C5 closed), contacts, causing the lamps to flash.
