Abstract

730,035. Dynamometers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd: Aug. 10, 1953 [July 30, 1952], No. 19264/52. Class 106 (2). The tension in a moving filamentary material 1, Fig. 1, is measured by causing it to exert a turning moment against a spring-biased pivoted bar 3, the material being passed through the pivot axis 4 of the bar 3. As shown, the thread passes round a guide 2 on the bar 3 and causes a clockwise turning moment against anticlockwise spring means 5. The tension T1 is read from a scale 7. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2, the spring means 14 is continually adjusted to cause the bar 11 to read zero on the scale 17, the force exerted by the spring being indicated on the scale 17 by the pointer 19 as a measure of the tension T2. The filamentary material 9 passes through the pivotal axis 12 of the bar 11. The angle which the thread 9 makes with the bar 11 is read on a scale 18.
