Abstract
534,662. Indicating apparatus. GRANT, C. R. A. Sept. 7, 1939, No. 25324. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv)] Comprises a Bourdon pressure gauge in which back-lash of the pointer 16 is avoided by resilient means acting upon the pointer or indicator spindle through the intermediary of an additional toothed or friction rack mounted independently of the usual driving rack. The Bourdon tube 25 operates the pointer 16 through a link 23, quadrant 18 and pinion 20 on the pointer spindle. An additional rack 19 pivoted on the same point as rack 18 meshes with the pinion 20. A leaf spring 27 anchored to the screw 14 bears upon the rack 19 near its pivot and causes the teeth of the pinion 20 to be nipped between the teeth of the racks 18, 19 thus preventing back lash. The rack 19 need not be centred on the same pivot as the rack 18. The additional rack may be pressed from sheet metal the tail being bent near the pivot to form the spring. The rack may not be toothed and may engage the indicator spindle frictionally. It may be milled and engage a rubber coated member on the spindle.
