Abstract
579,932. Indicating ; pressure gauges. GRANT, C. R. A. Oct. 23, 1943, No. 17481. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv)] Means for retaining the pointer of a pressure gauge in the maximum or minimum position reached, comprises a lost-motion device between the pressure responsive element and the pointer and means for applying a restraining frictional force axially to the pointer spindle. As shown, a Bourdon tube 1 acts on a lost-motion device comprising a slotted screw 6 adjustlink 4 embracing a shouldered screw 6 adjustable along an arcuate slot 7 in a quadrant 12, whereby the transmission ratio may be varied. The quadrant drives a pinion on a spindle 8 bearing the pointer 9, the spindle being / acted on by a spring (not shown) according to whether the maximum or the minimum reading is required. A plunger 23 is spring-pressed towards the spindle 8 to an extent governed by a screw-threaded sleeve 19 adjustable by spanner or by a tommy-bar engaging holes 21. The sleeve 19 may be locked in set position by a set-screw 26. The top of the plunger 23 may be a cross-bar 28 which can engage in one or other pair of recesses 27, 29 so as to press on the spindle or to leave it free, respectively. In a modification, the frictional device is applied to the spindle at the back of the casing. Specification 579,959 is referred to.
