Abstract

938,171. Linear-dimension gauges. LANTECH Ltd. March 11, 1960 [Dec. 13, 1958], No. 36584/58. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXXII] A micrometer gauge, adapted particularly for determining spring rates, comprises an anvil 12, Fig. 1, which is pre-loaded by a spring 16 and the movements of which are indicated by a dial gauge 10. The free length of a spring to be tested is first measured and the micrometer barrel 5 is then screwed up until the dial gauge shows that the anvil 12 has just begun to move and that the spring is under the predetermined load. The new length of the spring is then measured on the micrometer so that the spring rate may be calculated. The micrometer may be used to check tolerances, the barrel 5 being set to the minimum tolerance size so that the dial gauge indicates all sizes above the minimum tolerance. The anvil shaft 4 may be locked by compression of an O ring 19, Fig. 2, through a screw 17 arranged transversely or a threaded bush 21, Fig. 4 (not shown), surrounding the shaft 4. The shaft 4 may be axially adjustable of the barrel 2 through the intermediary of a threaded collar 24, Fig. 5, within which the shaft 4 may be locked" by a wedge-headed screw 28, 30 inserted in the split end 31 of the shaft 4.
