Abstract

886,068. Linear - dimension gauges. SWEDEN, DIRECTOR GENERAL OF FORSVARETS FABRIKSSTYRELSE. May 6, 1960 [Aug. 10, 1959], No. 16176/60. Class 106 (2). An instrument for measuring the axial length B of a groove 1 in a bore 2 of a workpiece comprises a dial indicator 5 attached to a sleeve 4 in which slides an inwardly-biased plunger 11 having a lip 12, the dial indicator carrying a rotatable tolerance ring 13 provided with a zero index 14 and two tolerance indices 15. The sleeve 11 has a plane end surface 10 which can be placed against the end face of the workpiece 3. In use the plunger 11 is inserted in the bore 2 so that its lip rests against the upper surface of the groove 1. The reading given indicates the depth of the groove below the surface. The ring 13 is then rotated so that the zero index 14 is opposite the dial gauge pointer. By means of a trigger arm 6, the plunger is urged downwardly against the lower edge of thegroove 1, as shown in Fig. 3. If the pointer 16 is now lying between the two indices 15, the length of the groove is within the required tolerance.
