569,913. Linear-dimension gauges; indicating - apparatus. CHARLES, A., and SMITH METERS, Ltd. Dec. 18, 1942, No. 18008. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv)] Means for preventing back-lash between two relatively moving parts of instruments comprise a spring mounted on one part and exerting pressure on the other part. The invention is shown as applied to the connection between the pointer-operating lever and the pointer of a linear-dimension gauge of the kind described in Specification 569,911. The pointer-operating lever 22 pivoted at 29 has a slot 37 engaging a pin 38 fixed to the pointer 23 which is pivoted at 40. The pin is kept in engagement with the side of the slot by a spring 88. The end of the pin 38 may have a groove 90, Fig. 4, in which the spring seats, and a collar 91. The invention may be applied to parts which merely bear upon each other without pin-and-slot engagement.
