Abstract
928,398. Pressure gauges; indicating-apparatus. SCOVILL MANUFACTURING CO. April 22, 1960, No. 14259/60. Classes 106 (2) and 106 (4). A pressure gauge comprises a sealed chamber 15a in which moves a hollow plunger 34 biased in one direction by a spring 17, there being a restricted passage or passages 31, 33 between the chamber 15a and the interior 29 of the plunger 34, and the effective diameter of the plunger interior 29 being substantially less than the diameter of the chamber 15a. Fluid under pressure is admitted to the chamber 15a through a passage 25 and thence through the restricted passages 31, 33 to the interior of the plunger. These restricted passages reduce shock loads on the plunger and other moving parts. Indication is effected by a pointer (not shown) mounted on a spindle 18 and moving with an arm 39 engaged by the plunger 34. The spindle 18 is pivoted in a stirrup 38, which is adjustably mounted on the casing by means of screws 44a passing through slots in the stirrup base-plate 19. This provides for zero adjustment of the gauge. To change the magnification ratio the stirrup base-plate can be bent away from the casing by means of a screw 46. This alters the effective length of the arm 39. In a second embodiment (Fig. 6), the pointer is not mounted directly on the shaft 18, but is actuated by a pinion and toothed quadrant transmission 55 mounted on the adjustable stirrup.
