Abstract

1,097,691. Thermometers. K. D. G. INSTRUMENTS Ltd. July 7, 1964 [April 26, 1963], No. 16594/63. Heading G1D. A temperature responsive device comprises a temperature sensitive liquid/vapour filled bulb (not shown) connected to a pressure sensitive Bourdon tube 11 to impart movement to a pointer (not shown) through a mechanical transmission which has a non-linear input-output characteristic to compensate for non-linearity in other parts of the device so that the movement of the pointer is substantially linear with change in temperature. One end of the Bourdon tube 11 is fixed and its free end carries a block 32 connected to an arm 23 by means of a link 30 and a slot and screw connection 28, 29. The arm 23 is mounted on a pivot 19 and is connected to a bell crank lever mounted on a pivot 18 by a link 25. The bell crank lever has an arcuate toothed rack 21 meshing with a pinion 22 or a spindle 13 which carries the pointer. The pivots 18, 19 are carried on a plate 14 which is adjustably mounted about the spindle 13 by means of clamping screws 17. In modified arrangements the Bourdon tube can extend past the mechanical transmission, the drive to the pointer or may be replaced by a card friction drive, or the pointer may be mounted as an extension of the arm 20 of the bill crank lever.
