[Also in Groups XIII and XX] A pressure-responsive device comprises a sylphon bellows 1 provided with a flexible but non-extensible member 2 which prevents expansion of the bellows along one of its generatrices. The member 2 may be a thin metal blade or strip soldered or welded to all or some of the convolutions of the bellows. One end wall 3, secured by a screw-threaded union 4 and nut 5 to a support 6 is connected by a duct 7 to a reservoir. An increase of pressure in the latter causes the strip 2 to be bent by the bellows in the direction of the arrow 14 and a pin 9 on the end 8 acts on a rod connected to a pointer 11. In a modification for use in indicating temperature (see Group XX) the end 3 of the bellows is sealed and a rise in temperature causes an increase in the pressure of the fluid within the bellows. The amount of bending of the latter is recorded on a revolving drum by a stylus attached to the free end of the bellows. In this embodiment the bellows may contain a liquid and depending upon the degree of filling of the container with the liquid the instrument will be responsive also to variations in the gaseous pressure external thereto. Electric or hydrostatic remote control means may be associated with the device.
