Abstract
558,194. Pressure gauges. CAMBRIDGE INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd., APTHORPE, W. H., and STALLAN, W. J. June 22, 1942, No. 8537. [Class 106 (ii)] Relates to pneumatic means for the remote indication of a variable wherein movement of a restrictor or the like in relation to a movable nozzle in accordance with variation of the variable is effected by direct means. In one form as applied to an indicator for temperature a Bourdon tube a, Fig. 1, secured to a block b, is connected by a pipe c with a thermometer bulb (not shown), the bulb, pipe and tube being filled with mercury. The free end of the tube a carries a restrictor plate d with an adjustable screw k arranged adjacent an outlet or nozzle e fitted to the free end of a Bourdon tube f. The fixed end of the tube f is connected by a duct g to a source of compressed air at predetermined pressure and to a pressure gauge (not shown) calibrated to indicate temperature. The position of the screw k in relation to the nozzle e determines the quantity of air escaping and consequently the pressure of the air applied to the pressure gauge which accordingly indicates the temperature. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 2, the thermometer bulb is connected by a pipe t to a bellows chamber m, the movable end of which has a plate d that coacts with a nozzle e on a pipe n rigid with the movable end of a second bellows p connected to a source of compressed air by way of a restricted passage r in a pipe q. The pipe extension s is connected to a pressure gauge.
