Abstract

747,613. Flowmeters. VIGNALE, O. R. Feb. 25, 1954 [Feb. 25, 1953], No. 5208/53. Class 69 (1). A gauge for measuring flow of gas comprises a chamber having one wall formed by a gas-impervious diaphragm, an inlet to the chamber, an outlet from the chamber, which outlet is constant in area and may be restricted relative to the inlet, and indicating means actuated by the movement of the diaphragm. In one form shown, a flexible diaphragm 5 is clamped between an upper part 1 and a lower part 2 of a casing, the part 2 having a fluid inlet 7 and an outlet 8 having a restricted orifice 10. The diaphragm is biased by a spring 14 and its movement is transmitted to a pointer 17 via a rod 12, a toothed segment 19 and a pinion 18. The diaphragm may be made from fabric treated to render it impervious, rubber or thin sheet metal and the rod may be a free element or may be attached to the diaphragm and/or pivotally connected to the toothed segment. In another form, the spring 14 is replaced by a C-shaped spring behind the dial, the upper end of the spring being fixed to a support and the lower end being attached to the rod 12. The Provisional Specification also describes a form of anaesthetics administration apparatus with which the flow gauge may be used.
