[Also in Group XXXVIII] A fluid-pressure-responsive unit comprises a Bourdon tube 5 of serpentine form as shown, the movement of the sealed end thereof being restricted to substantially rectilinear motion in the direction of the axis of symmetry of the tube 5 by a flat leaf spring 9. The movement of the sealed end is conveyed to the inner end of a plunger 12 having a drive fit in a piston 16 slidable in a sleeve 13. The arrangement is such that the outer end 15 of the plunger 12 is constrained to move in a straight line only. The end 15 can be coupled to a metal wiper arm movable over a wire wound potentiometer adapted to give a remote electrical indication in terms of pressure. Alternatively the end 15 may operate a switch or a signal at a predetermined pressure. The movable end of the tube 5 may, in addition, also be coupled to a toothed quadrant driving a pinion mounted on a pointer or stylus spindle so that a direct indication or recording of pressure may also be obtained by a conventional pointer and scale, or stylus and chart, incorporated in the apparatus.
